Eryn Mertens is a legally trained and ethically grounded planning professional with a proven commitment to thoughtful policy development, procedural integrity, and public service. With a Juris Doctor and several years of hands-on experience in  municipal and regional planning, she brings a unique perspective to the intersection of land use law, planning policy, and community development. Driven by a deep intellectual curiosity and a passion for shaping resilient, equitable communities, Eryn has worked collaboratively across departments and with the public to ensure that planning decisions are both legally sound and community-centered. Known for her analytical rigor, attention to detail, and adherence to due process, Eryn approaches each project with a commitment to transparency, fairness, and ethical excellence.

Whether contributing to comprehensive plan updates, zoning code revisions, community redevelopment master plan updates, or development review, Eryn consistently advocates for data-informed, legally defensible, and community-minded solutions in both long range and current planning projects. Her legal background enables her to navigate complex regulatory environments, while her planning experience ensures alignment with both short-term needs and long-term visions.

Eryn is currently pursuing her AICP certification through the American Planning Association, as well as her Redevelopment Professional certification through the Florida Redevelopment Association. She is also currently learning GIS through independent study using ArcGIS Pro guided by proficient GIS users.
